Pine Creek Preview
One of the best canyoneering hikes in the park. Before you begin this hike you must be very savvy in your knowledge and experience in rappelling. If you have this, you will be safe and have a blast! The entrance to the Pine Creek is just past the tunnel on your way east out of the park. It is the same place that you start the Zion Overlook trail. Once you park in the small parking lot just out of the tunnel on the right, off to the right, there is the beginning of a slot canyon. That is the trail head for Pine Creek. Just follow the slot canyon and you can’t get lost.
This hike is full of adventure! As you go through the slot canyon you traverse the canyon side to side many time. It seems as though it were at maze at times as you try to find you way to the next spot down the canyon. A few rappels are typically required. The slot canyon then opens up and you find yourself on a plateau-like mountain with no way off, but to rappel. This rappel is a free-hang from 100ft! Although this hike is not typically one you would take a person who has never rappelled, if experienced hikers are present, it should not be a problem.
