Right Fork Preview

The Right Fork is a full day for even the savviest of hikers. The photos and description you see in this write it are from The Right Fork Direct via The Hammerhead. Don’t confuse this write up with the route the backpackers take down Wildcat Canyon. The approach via The Hammerhead is a canyoneering adventure slash backpacking trip.

To get to this adventure, start at the West Rim trailhead and go about 1/2 mile into Potato Hollow and climb out of Potatoe Hollow and enter The Hammerhead via the 130′ rappel to the canyon bottom. The canyon has several downclimbs and rappels that are typical to canyoneering until it reach the Right Fork Direct. From here you follow the water course down the entire right fork of the virgin river through pot hole style canyoneering, long cold swims (including the Black Pool), etc until you reach The Grand Alcove (one of the most beautiful places in the park).

This trip is not for the weary and will test even the best hikers.
